This 6:42 piece was created by Howie Carr around 1987 and featured the late Boston City Councilor Dapper O’Neill It was produced as part of a roast for Channel 56 General Manager Jerry Walsh. We pulled in a range of political and media figures for cameo appearances—including State Treasurer Bob Crane; the recently deceased Suffolk County District Attorney Newman Flanagan; Patriot Ledger’s TV critic Teri Ann Knopff; Paul Sullivan from the Herald; Jerry Foley from J. J. Foley’s; and several others.
Several dated inside jokes, including about Howie’s old TV boss Jeff Rosser also being missing, (he’d been fired), as well as a reference to the snotty boss of Channel 5, “S. James” Coppersmith (Teri Ann cracks up talking about S. James — “what kind of name is S. James?”). It was a recurring theme that Gerry Walsh used credit cards — yes, this was made a long time ago.
P.S. Howie’s hat has since been lost to history.
Happy Thanksgiving from 80’s Boston!
