There was finally unity on Capitol Hill today. Democrats and Republicans both agree that Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle failed to protect former President Donald J. Trump.

The hearing was full of bombshell moments.

My favorite moment was a very simple question from Rep. Khanna.

Khanna: "Stewart Knight was in charge of the Secret Service [when Reagan was shot]. Do you know what he did afterwards?"

Cheatle: "He remained on duty."

Another very telling exchange between Rep. Timmons and Cheatle:

Cheatle: "There were sufficient resources that were given to the former President."

I’m not sure Cheatle thinks anything would rise to the level of requiring her to resign. Listen to her try and get out of answering Rep. Moskowitz’s hypothetical question:

The hearing was such a ****show for Cheatle that Comer and Raskin teamed up and wrote a letter calling on her to resign.

Today, you failed to provide answers to basic questions regarding that stunning operational failure and to reassure the American people that the Secret Service has learned its lessons and begun to correct its systemic blunders and failures. In the middle of a presidential election, the Committee and the American people demand serious institutional accountability and transparency that you are not providing. We call on you to resign as Director as a first step to allowing new leadership to swiftly address this crisis and rebuild the trust of a truly concerned Congress and the American people.
