Thank you, President Trump, for making women’s sports female again!

Men on female sports teams have nothing to do with equality.

It’s been Christmas every day since Nov. 5, but this week felt like Thanksgiving. With President Trump back in office, we have so much to be thankful for. On Wednesday, he did it again for America, signing an executive order to BAN men in women sports!

This is so long overdue.

When my youngest daughter was in a school field hockey tournament on Cape Cod, I happily traveled to watch her play. By chance, I knew parents from the other team.  While standing on the sidelines chatting, I briefly mentioned how tall their goalie was.

The person I knew informed me that “she” was a “he.” I couldn’t believe it. He towered over all the girls. Where were Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda and other so-called feminists when they were truly needed? They were nowhere to be found. Instead, we had to rely on Riley Gaines and I applaud her for all her hard work.

I grew up as a poor girl living in a rich town. It was clear to me early on that I was different. But the opportunities I was offered in soccer, swimming and tennis made me feel equal. I formed friendships with girls who were not in my inner circle, but as teammates we grew closer.

Together we celebrated the great wins and consoled one another after the losses. It really wasn’t about winning. It was about working together as a team and building confidence in ourselves. Women’s sports were very important to me in my teen years.  And I want the same opportunities for my granddaughter.

Men on female sports teams have nothing to do with equality. Instead, it has everything to do with pushing back all the advances women have made over the years to prove that they too can shine in the athletic spotlight. Caitlin Clark brought the TV ratings so needed in a sport that had never been taken seriously. We need to nurture and support these truly talented females.

Once again, I applaud President Trump for his principles and courage. He is a role model to all young girls to never give up.  He has saved yet another important tradition in our country.

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
