We must extend protected-class status to one more group of oppressed Americans:
People wearing MAGA hats.
I considered writing this column a few weeks back, when the admittedly drunk illegal Brazilian attacked the 23-year-old American at that Mexican restaurant in Falmouth. (That illegal bigot will be back in court April 24.)
But this epidemic of MAGA-hat hate crimes keeps getting worse – where are the ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center and all the rest of the woke virtue-signaling left-wing money machines? Is Maura Healey’s hate-crime hotline still in operation?
In case you missed it, the latest Democrat-on-taxpayer hate crime took place in Palo Alto – at a Starbucks. A 74-year-old Jewish man with a beard and a MAGA hat was having a cup of coffee when he was suddenly confronted by a Social Justice Warrior by the name of Parker Mankey, who began screaming at him.
“He will never forget me,” she later recounted on social media, “and will think seriously about wearing that hat in my town ever again. If you see him in this hat, please confront him. You do not want to be the person who didn’t speak up as we slipped into fascism.”
I think it’s safe to say Becky hasn’t gotten over Mueller’s “no collusion” report. In fact, she may be taking the collapse of the three-year-long hoax even harder than Rachel Maddow.
“I yelled at him. Called the entire Starbucks to order and yelled at him more about how it is not ok to hate brown people. He threatened to call the cops. I left after yelling at him.”
Why can’t we all just get along? to coin a phrase. To coin another one, that’s not who we are. But wait, her Facebook posting got worse.
“The part that was really heartbreaking to me was that in a full Starbucks, I was the only person yelling at him. There were other white people there who should have called him out. It is the duty of every white person in America to stand up to this every time they see it.”
When they see what? Other Americans exercising their First Amendment rights by wearing a hat?
Okay, she got fired from her accounting job at a hippie music store. The vile bigot is paying at least some price. But then somebody named Steven Lee, who is identified as the “Palo Alto Human Relations Commissioner,” leapt to her defense with his own Facebook posting.
“One of our neighbors, beloved by many in our community for her progressive activism, myself included, allowed herself to be pulled down into that muck… We must resist sinking down to their level.”
Sinking down to their level? The old guy, whose name is Victor, was having a cup of coffee, minding his own business, not bothering anybody.
Victor wears a yarmulke under his MAGA hat. She called him a Nazi. She has a Mohawk and brags about being a Bernie Sanders supporter. Why am I not surprised? So was the nut who shot up the Republican Congressional baseball practice.
From Falmouth to Palo Alto, the celebrate-diversity crowd isn’t celebrating much anymore. Antifa uber alles. In New Jersey, an 81-year-old man was attacked outside a supermarket by a 19-year-old over his MAGA hat. A teenager in San Antonio had his red cap stolen at a Whataburger by a punk who also threw a soft drink in his face. (President Trump sent him a new hat.)
In Tennessee, a 57-year-old man pulled out a .40 Glock on a MAGA-hat-wearing guy in a Sam’s Club parking lot and screamed, ‘It’s a good day for you to die!’
This has been happening on school buses, in bars in New York City, on the street in Austin, everywhere. A 17-year-old kid was confronted at a college in Missouri while he was trying to decorate a room for his high-school prom.
I saw a headline that said “Man wearing MAGA hat accused of sword attack.” This was in San Francisco. It wasn’t until the third paragraph that the actual cause of the attack was mentioned – the “victim” had tried to knock the MAGA hat off the swordsman’s head.
Not only are MAGA hat wearers assaulted with impunity, but whenever a hate crime hoax is perpetrated, Trump supporters are blamed. Even if they don’t exist – just ask Jussie Smollett. Even if they’re the victims – just ask the Covington Catholic High School kids.
In Charlotte an immigrants’ store was torched, and a note was left behind saying “Donald Trump is our nation builder for White America.” After investigation, a black guy with a history of marijuana arrests was charged.
In Mississippi, a black church was burned down, with the words “Vote Trump” spray painted on the charred ruins. A black guy was arrested.
In Louisiana, a college student claimed her hijab was torn off by two white males, one of whom was wearing a MAGA hat. She was charged with filing a false police report.
This week in Palo Alto, the local TV stations tracked down the old Jewish guy with the MAGA hat. Victor pointed out that anyone who can’t tell the difference between a MAGA hat and a Nazi helmet or KKK hood is deranged.
“It’s called Trump Derangement Syndrome,” he said.
Victor is right. Getting this crime wave under control isn’t just a job for Congress and law enforcement, we also need to mobilize the Centers for Disease Control. TDS is a disease, it’s infectious, and it’s raging out of control.
