WBZ is making news today—but not the kind they are used to. Former anchor Kate Merrill, who departed the station in 2024, filed a lawsuit on Tuesday accusing the station of discrimination.
Molly Farrar broke down the entire lawsuit for Boston.com.
The lawsuit (which you can read in full here) is chock-full of interesting details including a contentious relationship between Merrill and WBZ’s meteorologist Jason Mikell as well as Merrill’s demotion and eventual departure.
The Universal Hub linked screenshots of an intense text exchange between the co-workers over Mikell’s pronunciation of Concord.
WBZ has been criticized for their lack of diversity.
Did the station treat Merrill (and perhaps other white anchors) unfairly as a way to bolster their DEI agenda and fix their PR problems?
Only time will tell.
The internet wasted no time reacting to this bombshell story.
Do you think Merrill has a chance at winning this $4 million dollar lawsuit?
I am no legal beagle but after reading some of the details, I’d say she has a pretty strong case.
