Grace’s Take: Tone-deaf celebs a dime a dozen at Grammys
The Grammys used to be crazy for all the right reasons. Obscene outfits, drunk celebrities, bad lip-syncing. For a millennial who thrives off pop culture and crappy TV like myself, it was one of my favorite nights of the year.
But it makes sense that I was extremely skeptical that this award season would produce any enjoyable content. After all, Trump Derangement Syndrome has affected the Hollywood elite worse than Howie Carr has affected the clam population. That is to say, it has been detrimental and devastating.
And damn, did the stars disappoint yet again. Rather than, I don’t know…sing?, the stars decided to play politicians for the night.
And it makes sense that they feel so closely connected to politics. Rich, self-congratulatory and out of touch…they’d feel right at home at a table with Nancy Pelosi and Chuckie Schumer.
But it is fascinating how much these “performers” have alienated any people who disagree with their liberal agenda.
Michael Jordan allegedly once said (in response to why he chooses to stay out of politics), “Republicans buy sneakers too.”
Apparently that wise sentiment is lost on those trying to sell CDs or concert tickets.
Some of the most obnoxious moments?
Camillo Cabello makes an entire speech about “dreamers”.
Stars read experts from Fire and Fury. If the whole skit wasn’t awful enough, HRC shows up at the end. HOW CAN WE MISS YOU IF YOU DON’T GO AWAY!!????
Bono uses a megaphone at the end of his speech and says “blessed are the %$#@-hole countries”.
How incredibly brave of you Bono! If there is anyone who I want lecturing me on immigration it is a multi-millionaire from Ireland.
Sting sang a 31 year old snoozer called “An English Man in New York” because…you guessed it! Immigration!
Talk about a stretch with that one. I’m surprised they didn’t have him just write a song titled, “Let people flood our borders and also donate to the DNC.” Would’ve made more sense. Even the people in the audience were definitely thinking, wait why is Sting up there? And also, why is he singing this crappy song? https://youtu.be/kkNaf5ViUQI
Kendrick Lamar nominated Jay-Z for President during his acceptance speech. One rapper nominating another rapper for the most powerful office in the world. What could possibly go wrong?
And finishing off the ratings disaster is Logic. Before you ask me, Grace who is Logic? Let me be the first to admit, I have no idea. But after watching his speech at the end of his performance I can assure you I won’t be purchasing any tickets to his concerts soon. After all, I got lectured enough in college. And that was mad expensive.

Overall I’d say the Grammys have been the most political of all the award shows thus far. And that is like being the most corrupt hack on Beacon Hill. It is a tight race.
But still, props to all of those singers for using the opportunity to remind Republicans that we are deplorable, uneducated morons*.
*Deplorable, uneducated morons who will not be buying their music.
