Martinis, island hijinks … State Police gone wild

Martinis – that’s the latest word of the day for the Massachusetts State Police.

The MSP is rocked by new corruption charges almost every day – so many, so fast, that it’s sometimes easy to get them all confused.

For those of you keeping score at home, by the way, the number of days that the MSP has now gone without a new scandal is… zero.

But first, the word of the day, “martinis,” as in, that’s what disgraced Sgt. Scott Quigley was guzzling the day he fatally injured a man in a disabled van in Woburn.

That happened in December 2023. He worked in Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office as a crack sleuth. He took a slide and headed down to Teresa’s. After a while he got back in his unmarked MSP vehicle, did 59 m.p.h. in a 35-mile zone, crossed a double yellow line and in a head-on crash fatally injured the disabled man.

A dead man, an allegedly drunk state cop. And it was all covered up by his pals in the State Police and the Middlesex County district attorney’s office until January 2026 – 25 months.

The truth is starting to trickle out, now that the appalling Marian Ryan has survived her primary challenge.

The election was Sept. 1. The very next morning, Sept. 2, the Commonwealth began dumping the dirt against the MSP, the Middlesex DA’s office, and Quigley.

In one filing, “The commonwealth alleges that (Quigley) drank two martinis at a bar near the DA’s office and then headed home in the unmarked Ford Escape cruiser assigned to him.”

Two martinis? Is that Quigley now admits to? Why not the traditional… two beers?

Of course Quigley wasn’t the only statie from Marian Ryan’s office boozing it up at Teresa’s that afternoon. But everybody dummied up, for more than two years.

When Quigley was finally arraigned, all these years later, reporters asked his lawyer about whether there was in fact a cover up.

“The allegations are that there’s a cover up,” Christina Pujals Ronan said in denial. “This man was in trauma!”

He was in trauma? After “two” martinis.” For more than two years the State Police claimed Quigley had had a medical emergency. Could it have been a bad ice cube?

Now the Commonwealth admits there was a cover up by his fellow State Police in Marian Ryan’s investigative unit. Now that the primary is won the truth can come out.

“Members of the unit who knew or learned he had been drinking,” the prosecutors say in their post-election filing, “kept this knowledge to themselves at least for months.”

One of Quigley’s fellow troopers was Lt. Anthony DeLucia. In the summer of 2024 he told a civilian employee of Ryan’s that Quigley had a BAC of .11 – actually .114 – and that the non-cop “should take that to his grave.”

The Mafia calls it omerta – silence. You never rat out your friends, right Lieutenant?

Was DeLucia punished? Of course not, he is, or was a bent state cop. He retired, not in shame but in greed. Like all of these low-IQ troopers, he needed a wheelbarrow to haul his money away.

For this last year on the job, he pocketed $59,101 in base pay, $12,967 in OT, $48,000 in “leave/buy back” and $2338.50 in other pay.

Total: $122,406. According to the state comptroller, his final paycheck was in May. DeLucia made $228,000 last year, and $234,000 in 2024.

And behind it now comes the pension. The crooked state troopers always get to keep their pensions, don’t they. They take it to their graves.

Anthony “Take it to the grave” DeLucia now grabs a kiss in the mail of $9,130 a month — $109,564 a year.

Now that the primary is over and the ancient battle axe Marian Ryan has four more years to slurp at the trough, the prosecutors in the Quigley case can speak a little more openly.

“The present prosecution team is not responsible for the shortcomings of the initial investigation,” the imported prosecutors wrote the day after the primary, “whether they occurred by design (to protect a fellow officer) or not.”

Protect a fellow officer who killed somebody? Would the State Police do such a terrible thing?

Next, we return to yesterday’s new scandal, the alleged sexual assault inside the MSP barracks on Martha’s Vineyard.

So many unanswered questions, and so little interest from regime-controlled media in Boston:

Do the staties have surveillance cameras outside D-5? When the young woman who was allegedly assaulted inside the barracks by a pal of one of the troopers ran outside screaming, scantily clad, is there video of her panicked flight onto Temahigan Road?

How many search warrants were served on the barracks?

Are there CAD (computer assisted dispatch) records from other, non-corrupt police departments on the island of first responders being dispatched to the barracks to deal with the alleged crime and the hysterical victim?

Will the trooper, who has since been transferred back to the mainland, be disciplined, or will he get a good leaving alone, a la Quigley or DeLucia?

Isn’t it interesting that civilians are apparently allowed to use the police barracks as crash pads that then become crime scenes?

Are all MSP barracks operated like hotels, where the “guests” must check in and leave a credit card?

What is check out time at the barracks? Let me guess – it’s when honest cops arrive and put the cuffs on you for some atrocious crime you’ve committed in the barracks?

Do MSP barracks have room service? And most importantly, can you get a martini after hours?
