Jury gives city double dipper $1M kiss
Meet Terrance Williams, the newest inductee into the Double Dipper Hall of Fame.
The usual five-year waiting period is being waived in recognition of Williams’ amazing feat – collecting two paychecks from two different hack-infested agencies in the City of Boston for 892 days between 2017 and 2025.
When he was finally fired after years of double-slurping at the public trough, Williams “brung,” as he put it, a law suit. And last week he won $1 million in a jury trial for “retaliation.”
When it comes to double dipping, this verdict makes Terrance Williams the GOAT – the Greediest of All Time.
He was making $108,000 as a “master of operations” at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC), which many days involved little or no work, as he admitted under oath.
"He was making $108,000 as a “master of operations” at the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC), which many days involved little or no work, as he admitted under oath."
At the same time, Williams was pocketing another $64,000 a year as a civil process server for the High Sheriff of Suffolk County, “Honest” Steve Tompkins, on whom he had lavished $2500 in campaign contributions.
That figure of 892 double-dipping days comes from the complaint the BWSC filed against Williams with the State Ethics Commission more than a year ago, with copious documentation.
Nothing has been done because… professional courtesy.
Williams is, after all, a twice-failed candidate for the Boston City Council. Also, Gov. Maura Healey gave him a pardon for a long-ago juvenile crime – the Democrats are handing out pardons these days like Halloween candy.
Bottom line: Williams is a hack’s hack.
So last week a jury paid no attention to the mountain of double-dipping evidence against him. Instead, they awarded Williams $1 million damages for the BWSC’s “retaliation” against him for filing racial-discrimination lawsuits.
He wanted millions more for that alleged “racism.” But not even the slack-jawed Boston jury would go for that.
Still, Williams’ testimony provides a revealing glimpse into the modern Boston hackerama, and just how entitled these layabouts have become.
Under cross-examination by Commission lawyer Brian Kelly (who has also represented me), Williams was asked questions about his shameless double dipping. For instance, he took days off from his sewer job for “funeral leave,” and then delivered civil processes for Honest Steve.
Kelly asked him how double-dipping at his other job was part of the grieving process.
Williams was offended by the question.
“So are you telling me on how I bereave is – is wrong.”
Just like calling in sick, or even going out on workman’s comp, and then continuing to work at his hack job for Honest Steve.
Williams was dealing, he said, with the unjustness he faced from all the people at the Commission, people like “a white male Victor Baldassari… a white gentleman Mark Sheehan… Matthew Stillman… white.”
He had to get away from all that racist stress, by going out and double dipping.
“To take mental breaks,” he explained to Kelly. “That was my meditation, being out by myself… no stress, no nothing… You just taking mental breaks (from) all the stress and stuff I was being put through.”
So much discrimination against him. Like the time he stopped in a no-parking zone in front of Commission headquarters because he had to use the restroom. When you gotta go, you gotta go. How dare they criticize him?
Kelly was interested in that sign out on Harrison Avenue.
“Did the sign say, ‘No stopping unless you have to use the bathroom’?”
Williams: “No it does not.”
Even though Williams claims he was a victim of racism, they did give him a free car, with free gas. But even that perk produced stress. You see, when the Commission replaced Williams’ older car, they denied him the new four-door SUV he’d been dreaming of.
They gave him a pick-up truck. You know, like workers have. But then the honkies heaped on the ultimate indignity – the most overt hostile workplace act any hack of any color can ever face.
“The old truck I was driving didn’t have a GPS system,” he complained to Kelly. “The new truck had a GPS system… That means I could be tracked… track my every movement.”
No double-dipper wants to be tracked! GPS is a hate crime against the payroll patriot community.
Even if you’re not double dipping, that GPS is a hack’s worst nightmare. It makes you more vulnerable when you take the weekly slide to the Cape, every Wednesday afternoon at the end of the week….
The bosses can then use that damning GPS evidence to “retaliate” against you.
Then there was that free gas Williams also got in the BWSC car that he used when he was cruising the city, doing evictions and repo work for Honest Steve.
Free gas is a sweet deal, but it got better. The sheriff started giving his process servers a monthly gas stipend of $175 a month.
So in his double dipping, Williams was getting free gasoline from one city agency, and then being reimbursed for the free gasoline he didn’t pay for by a second city agency.
Kelly: “Did you reimburse the Commission for its gas?”
Williams: “No I did not.”
Maybe it was Williams’ own personal reparations package. It just wasn’t enough. It never is.
The BSCW will be appealing the million-dollar settlement. Who knew that you could double dip for 892 days and then grab a $1-million settlement?
One last point: despite all the racism that Williams claims he was suffering, he did get a promotion eventually. To a phony-baloney job with very, very little work. It happened after he appealed to then Mayor Marty Walsh.
Kelly asked him how the new make-work job had been justified by the mayor.
“Because,” Williams explained, “I’ve been there for so long, you know, and he ain’t seen no reason why I was still where I was at.”
The problem is, this is where Boston is at.
