Boston Cops Ambushed by Gunman, City Councilors Say Enough is Enough – 7.16.26

The latest violent incident in the” safest city in America” occurred Wednesday night when two cops were fired at by a crazed gunman.

Mass Daily News reports:

 Two Boston police officers came within a windshield of being killed Wednesday night when a gunman opened fire on their cruiser during a Blue Hill Avenue traffic stop, according to police and the officers’ union.

The officers had pulled over a driver in the area of Normandy Street and Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester at about 9:12 p.m. when the suspect opened fire, a Boston police spokesperson said. The rounds struck the police cruiser’s windshield. Neither officer was hit.

The officers did not return fire. The suspect was placed in custody shortly after.

Now City Councilors Ed Flynn and Erin Murphy are speaking out.

City Councilor Ed Flynn spoke to The Grace Curley Show about the shooting and the stunning lack of support for police amongst elected officials in the city of Boston.

This incident comes on the heels of a deadly July 4th weekend in the city.

NBC 10 Boston reported:

A violent end to Fourth of July celebrations in Boston: at least 13 people were shot after multiple shootings over the weekend.

Two people died, and one had life-threatening injuries. Multiple investigations are now underway and police are still searching for those responsible.
