Yet another state trooper has been dishonorably discharged. Joel De Barros Pina didn’t last long — just graduated from the Academy in January, was relieved of duty June 30 and “resigned” July 8. Repotedly was still on probation. Was assigned to Milton barracks, lived in Dorchester.
Any trooper who resigns during an IA investigation automatically receives a dishonorable discharge. Below is official statement from MSP. Notice that the incident remains under investigation by another police department. His MA POST Commission status is “restricted” and is listed as “unassociated” with any department.
Statement:
“The Massachusetts State Police dishonorably discharged Joel De Barros Pina in July when he resigned during an investigation into his off-duty conduct. Although we cannot provide further information while the matter remains under investigation by another police agency, the Department will support that ongoing process in any way we can.”
