Publicists always have to brief their out-of-touch clients on the best way to handle certain situations. Say very little, express condolences etc.

But then there are moments where a publicist probably assumes their client is on the same page with…well the rest of the planet.

I doubt Donna Karan’s PR team thought they needed to tell her, “By the way Ms.Karen…Harvey Weinstein is a major pervert and an obnoxious ogre. And also quick reminder–blaming the victim or implying that a female is ‘asking for it’ by dressing provocatively is extremely archaic and misogynistic. Have fun on the carpet! Be sure to smile big!”

Check out the video of the fashion designer making a complete mess of her reputation in this interview.

She has since apologized and released a statement to the always reputable US weekly.

“[I] made a statement that was not representative of how I feel or what I believe. My statements were taken out of context and do not represent how I feel about the current situation concerning Harvey Weinstein. I believe that sexual harassment is NOT acceptable and this is an issue that MUST be addressed once and for all regardless of the individual. I am truly sorry to anyone that I offended and everyone that has ever been a victim.”

Hmmm…I’m calling BS on this apology. Like most “taken out of context” defenses, this one doesn’t hold water.

First of all, by watching the video it becomes clear what she is trying to say. This isn’t a write up in a magazine where a journalist misquoted her. This is a video where she had plenty of time to make her opinions clear- and she did!

I fully think she believed her own nonsense. And that is the most alarming part of the whole thing.

As Howie might say, she inadvertently said what she actually believes. Woops indeed!
