Don’t even think about it, Gov. Charlie Baker.
We all know you’re a RINO, and that your moniker is Tall Deval, but even for you this would be the last straw, signing legislation to make Massachusetts a “sanctuary state” for illegal aliens.
The so-called Safe Communities Act, which would make communities less safe, would basically prohibit the state from enforcing federal immigration laws. It’s pending in the legislature now, and until Monday, Tall Deval had always said that if the bill reached his desk, he would veto it.
But that was then, and this is now.
“I’m an open-minded guy,” Baker said. “I’ve been known to change my mind about things before.”
Forget illegal aliens, Massachusetts is already overrun with legal aliens committing heinous crimes. In fact, Tall Deval began his flip-flop, excuse me, his evolution, his growth, on the day the local courts were full, as they always are, with New Americans.
In Boston, a “Chelsea man” named Bampaumim Teixeira was facing charges of stabbing two Boston physicians to death. Chelsea man is a twice-convicted bank robber and he’s really from Guinea-Bissau, in Africa.
“Hey, good morning,” the African told the clerk magistrate. “What’s up?”
Wonderful. Welcome to America. Down on the posh island sometimes called ACK, “Nantucket man” Kadeem Ferguson was being arraigned for an early-Sunday stabbing. He’s a Jamaican national, although you’d never know it from the news reports. Kadeem has a green card.
Later Monday, the Boston cops arrested one Cesar Amauris Lara-Aguasvivas, 23, for a home invasion last week in Hyde Park in which a woman was robbed at gunpoint, pistol-whipped, carjacked and then dumped in a Mattapan cemetery.
This “Boston man” was born in the Dominican Republic. He has a Social Security number.
All of the above are legal immigrants, more or less. So why exactly would we want to throw out the welcome mat even more than we already do… for illegals?
Answer me that, Tall Deval. Me and all the other voters whom you seem to believe will have no choice but to support you next year.
Even though incremental progress is being made lately in getting a handle on this illegal-alien crime wave, it’s still out of control. Just north of us, in Manchester, the Union Leader reported that a Congolese immigrant, who needed a Swahili interpreter in court, was charged with attacking a woman who was 27 weeks pregnant – “striking, pushing, grabbing, kicking and pulling out the hair,” as the paper reported.
But the charges were dropped because of his “cultural incompetency” – some bleeding heart in the prosecutor’s office decided he couldn’t understand the “American justice system.”
My question: if this Congolese was suffering from “cultural incompetency,” why was he allowed to move here in the first place? And do you suppose, with the help of his Swahili translator, that he has been able to make his way in the American welfare system?
But Gov. Baker thinks we should maybe think about making Massachusetts a sanctuary state for these Third World types. His next election is just 16 months away, and perhaps Charlie somehow believes this would boost his chances for a second term.
Doesn’t Tall Deval have more pressing matters to worry about, other than making the state even more of a magnet for lawless aliens than it already is?
This same day, Monday, when Nantucket man and Chelsea man and all the rest were clogging the courts, a think tank at George Mason University in Virginia released a study of the fiscal soundness of the 50 states.
And guess what, Tall Deval – Massachusetts came in at number 48, ranked ahead of only New Jersey and Illinois. Good job, Charlie. We’re third from the bottom in terms of fiscal mismanagement – and the graduated income tax isn’t even on the books, and the Safe Communities Act hasn’t yet made the Commonwealth even more unsafe than it already is.
But now you say you might be amenable to making Massachusetts a sanctuary state? Charlie, as Chelsea man would say, What’s up?
