So yesterday wasn’t the day, but a state indictment of Donald J. Trump still seems to be in the cards in New York. So the question remains, what’s the end game here for the Democrats?
Are they just so consumed with Stage 4 Trump Derangement Syndrome that they can’t help themselves? Obviously, the answer to that question is yes.
But is there more going on here with the Democrats than this fatal attraction-type obsession? Is there some method to their madness? Do they have some larger game plan here than a quick fix for their anti-Trump jones, and if so, what is it?
Are George Soros et al. seriously trying to take Trump off the board for 2024? Or, conversely, is this a ploy to get Trump the nomination, as a martyr to the GOP base, because they think he would be easier to beat?
And if that’s the scenario, are they sure that they’d be better off with Trump as the nominee against the senile corrupt vegetable now installed in the White House? Or would 44-year-old Ron DeSantis be easier pickings for what Biden himself bragged in 2020 was “the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics?”
Be careful what you wish for, Democrats. You know what they say about answered prayers.
Mike Tyson has a different saying. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face. I think that aphorism applies here too, for Democrats. You’ve got a plan now, but….
We’re in uncharted waters here. Not only has there never been an arrest of a former president, what makes this even more unpredictable is that this is a total frame-up. This is giving a bad name to kangaroo courts. Even star chambers are embarrassed by this tubby district attorney, Alvin Bragg.
If this were a real crime, somebody else — the previous DA, the Justice Department, the FEC, somebody – would have already charged Trump with something.
Maybe they’re starting with something so ridiculous that when they try to railroad Trump later for the Jan. 6 “insurrection,” or for his post-election phone call to Georgia, those charges won’t seem quite so… trumped up, so to speak, at least compared to this bill of attainder.
Trump stands accused of somehow committing a crime by indirectly paying a porn “star” named Stormy Daniels $130,000 for her silence about their alleged one-night stand (in California, not New York) in 2006.
The main witness against Trump – maybe the only witness – is Michael Cohen, a disbarred jailbird whose own previous lawyer testified against him before the grand jury in Manhattan on Monday.
Stormy Daniels owes Trump $300,000 in (unpaid) damages because her post-payoff civil lawsuit against him was so absurd. Her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, is himself in federal prison until 2036… for extortion, and for stealing money from Stormy Daniels.
That’s the kind of case it’s been. The two lawyers have both gone to prison. Meanwhile, Stormy’s X-rated merchandise business is booming and Trump is leading every national GOP poll for president.
The original payoff in 2016 was for another one of these non-disclosure agreements – NDA’s. You know, like both Congress and the state legislature in Boston have appropriated millions of dollars for over the decades, to silence the victims of the statesmen who have been touching everything but the third rail since the dawn of time.
Remember when Michael Bloomberg was running for president in 2020? The fake Indian yelled at him in a debate about his NDA’s with former employees. Is Bloomberg in prison?
How about ex-Sen. (and presidential candidate) John Edwards? He took a million bucks –in campaign funds – and paid it to his pregnant girlfriend. Is Edwards in prison?
How about the Clintons? Bill Clinton committed a felony – he lied under oath in a civil deposition in a sexual-harassment lawsuit. Clinton ended up paying $850,000 to Paula Jones, to whom he exposed himself in a non-consensual encounter (unlike the one between Stormy and Trump). Is Bill Clinton in prison?
Trump’s accused of filing a falsified business record to cover up the 2016 payment, which the Democrats claim made it an in-kind political contribution. And somehow the various statutes of limitation don’t kick in because Trump had moved out of state, or something.
How different is this case from Hillary Clinton using two or three cut-outs in 2016 to funnel a million bucks to the sinister foreign national who fabricated the “Steele dossier,” a complete hoax that roiled the entire US political system for three years?
Is Hillary in prison for that crime? No, she paid an $8000 fine. Eight thousand bucks, for plunging the nation into turmoil for most of Trump’s term. (The DNC had to pay another $100,000).
Yet now the Democrats want to put Trump behind bars for much, much less, than any of the above high crimes and misdemeanors.
If you consider this case against Trump for more than 90 seconds, you realize how absurd it is. The problem is, most of the people in this country are no longer low-info voters. They’re no-info voters.
Do you doubt me? Talk to a Democrat – any Democrat. All the Democrats are going for here is the gotcha picture – the mug shot.
The non-working classes don’t even read the headlines anymore. They just look at the pictures on their smart phones. That’s how dumbed-down they are. The Democrats have figured it out, the Republicans not so much.
When the corrupt FBI raided Mar-a-Lago last summer, I figured such a banana-republic stunt by the G-men would generate a huge red wave in November. It was at best a trickle (except in Massachusetts, where there was a blue tsunami, thanks to an ill-advised decision by the local GOP to spend all their funds suing other Republicans rather than mounting serious campaigns against Democrats).
The headline will be “Trump Indicted.” Does anything else matter? Elon Musk thinks it’ll mean a landslide for Trump. I’m not so sure.
Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public – that statement is truer now than when H.L. Mencken first said it more than a century ago.
In Sunset Boulevard, Gloria Swanson was ready for her close-up. Now the Democrats and state-run media are ready for their… mugshot.
