Stand By for Higher MA Taxes

Question: Who could have predicted that the State House would have to pass a supplemental budget to pay for overspending this fiscal year?

Answer:  Everyone paying attention to Bacon Hill.

When the legislature passed the annual state budget weeks late (as usual) in July, it was clear that a huge supplemental budget would be needed right after the election!

The reason was that the political hacks only included $500 million to pay for housing the illegal aliens as part of the Democrats’ cradle-to-grave luxury welfare package for all their amigos from the Third World.

It is no secret that the illegal housing situation is costing the state over $1 billion per year. So did the number of illegals significantly decrease suddenly in July? No! This decreased funding was done to give liberals like Provincetown’s Sen. Julian Cyr the false talking point on the campaign trail that the state has the “migrant situation under control.”

Now that the election is over, Beacon Hill needs hundreds of millions more to pay for their housing, not to mention other free stuff (including free health care, free Ubers and free tablets and cell phones to enjoy First World porn). The supplemental budget ranges from $400 to $701 million so far.

Clearly Gov. Maura Healey’s claims of wanting to house the illegals in hotels for only six months is not going to save us any money.

The news gets worse. Senate Ways and Means Chairman Michael Rodrigues said he is “real worried” about upcoming budget shortfalls for fiscal year 2026. Who could have guessed this one? The rocket scientist from Westport says that hiring freezes and budget cuts are not going to be enough. If only there were solutions to the spending problem….

But wait, there’s more.  First, the state could amend the Right to Shelter law to stop paying for housing the illegals. Second, Healey could cooperate with the incoming Trump administration on deporting people who are not supposed to be here and who are public charges, not working, consuming scarce resources that they didn’t pay for.

It is estimated that there are 8500 convicted criminal illegals on our MA streets. It would save a big chunk of change to get them out, and it would make every law-abiding person in Massachusetts a lot safer.

But the Democrats at the State House will never go for the commonsense solution.  They would prefer to continue picking our pockets, because taxing us more means more control of our lives. In case you hadn’t already figured out, “real worried” is code for tax increases.

With 2025 being a non-election year, we can expect an increase in taxes. Which one? It will be on our cars. Gov. Healey’s Transportation Funding Task Force will propose a gas tax increase, new tolls, or open-road tolling, or all the above, because Healey believes cars are evil in the fight against climate change.

It will be her justification.

The good news is that Healey’s days are numbered.
