Back after a brief hiatus, just in time for a new month.
Happy trails: Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese has called it a career. He spent 41 years and 5 months with the Watertown PD, and was a 3rd-generation Police Officer. He was instrumental in the Tsarnaev manhunt in 2013. Happy trails, Sargent Pugliese, and thank you for your service.
Who was that masked man?: Because everything trends towards terrible, Dr. Anthony Fauci is the subject of a new children’s book:
In the book, Dr. Fauci explains how vaccines make a child a “Super Hero.” Hmm… I suppose “Ant-Man” was already taken, as was “Super Smurf,” so Fauci is relegated to his best work as “Guy in the chair.” I’m not going to read it, but I’ll wager a guess that each successive page contradicts the one before it.
Set a course for the great hereafter: It was a tough weekend for celebrities, as we said goodbye to Gavin MacLeod, known for The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Love Boat, at the age of 90.
Pour one out for the Captain, Isaac.
Also, B.J. Thomas won’t be down for breakfast; the singer died of lung cancer at 78.
OTD: On this day in 1927, Lizzie Borden dies of pneumonia in Fall River.
In 1980, Ted Turner launches the Cable News Network, also known as CNN, paving the way for your 2021 news to be delivered by former CIA interns and Gender Neutral Potato Heads.
Speaking of Superheroes, happy birthday to Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s 25 today.
Tom does a great job with my favorite character, but I’ll always have a soft spot for Nicholas Hammond on the short-lived 1978 Spider-Man TV Show.
Just glorious.
