Producer’s Picks – 5.24.21

(You totally read that as Producer’s Piiiiiiiiicks)

Sportsy and very interactive today…

Uuuh-mazing: You don’t need set-up when the material tells its own story. Joe Biden met with FEMA for a routine check-in, which meant talking – which as we know, is not Joe’s strong suit.

Aaaand another of the Presidency’s mundane tasks has bested Joe Biden. Get this man an orange Gatorade – STAT!

Yangsta Rap: New York Mayoral Candidate Andrew Yang was on comedian Ziwe’s Showtime variety show, where she asked him about his musical taste. It does not go well.

Ooof. Here’s a tip for all you burgeoning politicians out there: Don’t say something is your favorite, if you can’t back it up by naming your actual favorite. Worse than Hillary not being able to name her favorite ice cream flavor, but not quite as bad as President Obama and his White Sox gaffe.

I’ll never understand why people find politicians disingenuous… free lesson to everyone, learned from the Boy Scouts – er, sorry, the Gender-Neutral-Scoutx – be prepared.

Terms of a “Near”-ment: Congratulations to the Boston Bruins for beating the Washington Capitals – and former Captian Zdeno Chara last night, to advance to round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And if you want to see the B’s in action (Or the Celtics), TD Garden announces it will return to “Near full Capacity.” They are still implementing the “Play it safe” Protocols, but as of yet, they aren’t requiring any vaccine passport ala other arenas.

LeBron James and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Weekend: the NBA Superstar and China Truther (hahahahahaha – just kidding) had a very bad few days. First, he was caught violating the league’s Covid Protocols, then he gets hard-fouled by the Phoenix Suns’ Chris Paul. But, even off the court, he just can’t catch a break… maybe he was looking for Jen Psaki’s “Outreach” on the Mountain Dew can… Anyway, one of these days, the stars will align for that crazy kid…

OTD: in 2017, Sir Roger Moore died. He did a lot of television and film, but is probably most famous as James Bond for seven films from 1973-1985. He’s my favorite Bond, even though the films were a little campy. I think he did a great job bringing fun to the part, a nice change of pace from Connery’s serious Bond.

Happy 80th birthday to Bob Dylan. I’d say nobody has had a bigger impact on popular music than Dylan. It seems like he wrote every song from 1960 to 1995; as Joe Biden would say “No Joke.” His lyrics, vocal styles, and fingerprints are all over the music scene in the 20th Century. It doesn’t get as much fanfare as his heyday, but 80’s Dylan is worth a dive, particularly “Jokerman:”

“Well, the Book of Leviticus and Deuteronomy
The law of the jungle and the sea are your only teachers
In the smoke of the twilight on a milk-white steed
Michelangelo indeed could’ve carved out your features”
