If U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton had become the Democratic presidential nominee, his recent quote would have been his “basket of deplorables” moment.
“We certainly have this perception in the Northeast that all the red states are, you know, they kind of — they’re getting what was coming to them because they refused to follow these mandates, and they’re playing politics with this rather than listening to the science.”
This comment will likely garner Moulton more national headlines than his presidential run ever did.
Moulton dropped out of the 2020 race almost a full year ago.
Because he never reached 2% in any poll, he did not qualify for any of the three Democratic debates.
Moulton’s take on the red versus blue state handling of coronavirus, like his presidential dream, is asinine. For someone who claims to “follow the science”, Seth should check out the numbers.
Trigger warning though — these numbers will not fit your narrative.
Florida has had 31 deaths per 100,000.
Massachusetts, the state Moulton represents, has had 124.
Texas has had 22 deaths per 100,000.
New York has had 168.
Georgia is reporting 35 deaths per 100,000.
New Jersey has 178.
To be fair, I am not a scientist. I don’t even play one on TV like Al Gore. Nonetheless, it is hard to refute those numbers.
Did I mention they came from CNN?
Moulton’s “perception” is dead wrong.
However, his comments expose something much scarier than his own ignorance.
The 2020 Democrats have utter contempt for Republicans.
Liberals don’t merely disagree with Trump supporters and red states, they are actively hoping for their demise.
Moulton and his tolerant cohorts are more willing to celebrate red state comeuppance than they are to criticize China, the country that is actually to blame for the coronavirus.
Trump has made his enemies so unhinged that they will gladly side with any person, group or country over the president and his base.
When former presidential candidate Herman Cain passed away this week, Twitter was flooded with ghoulish victory laps.
These deranged tweets were not from faceless trolls living in their moms’ basements.
They came from contributors like CNN’s Ana Navarro.
The “Republican” strategist wrote, “Herman Caín thought Covid was a hoax, scoffed at wearing a mask. Died of Covid. Bill Montgomery, co-founder of pro-Trump, Turning Point USA, scoffed at virus. Died of Covid. Rep. Gohmert refused to wear a mask. Has Covid. See a pattern? Covid doesn’t care about partisanship.”
“I told you so” is far more nauseating when you’re shouting it at a grave.
Alas, Cain was merely a successful, Black, Trump-supporting conservative — not an austere religious scholar.
So rather than respect, he gets cheap shot headlines and callous tweets.

The stars of today’s Democratic Party are very vocal when it comes to condemning conservatives.
They are a lot less vocal about condemning violence, looting, terrorism, communism, or antisemitism.
At this week’s House Judiciary Committee, Democrats berated, interrupted and chastised the Attorney General of the United States, William Barr.
The artificial purpose of the oversight hearing was to investigate the federal government’s response to protests in D.C. and Portland.
The actual objective for the likes of the attention-hungry Dems?
To grandstand.
Heroic members of Congress like Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, bravely “reclaimed their time”.
Barr’s time was not reclaimed. It was wasted.
But there was a significant moment among the political theater.
It came when Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., was questioning the AG about the fire at St. John’s Episcopal Church. He asked if Barr was aware that many clerical leaders had denounced “police assault on the civil rights and civil liberties of the people?”
Barr, responded, “Was that before or after the fire was put out?”
That short question summarizes the liberal ideology.
The left is angrier at the people who are putting out the fires then they are at the people who are starting them.
Let’s just hope there are enough people left in America who don’t want to see the country burn.
