Monday Musings: Taxing mileage, woke wording, and Covid confusion

What you see in the photo above are my own personal three wise monkeys, who live above my kitchen sink in Palm Beach.

I introduce them to you today because of the latest cancellation by the woke mob: the three wise monkeys have now been deemed… racist, by something in the United Kingdom called the University of York.

The three wise monkeys come from a Japanese proverb: “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.”

Repeat: Japanese proverb.

But now this insane college in England has removed the monkeys from their website, saying the trio “promulgates a longstanding visual legacy of oppression and exploits racist stereotypes.”

You can’t make this stuff up.

But I say this to my monkeys: you have a safe space in my kitchen.

Monkeys, you will never be cancelled.

Will Willard M. Romney accept the “coveted” Profiles in Courage Award under his own name, or under his well-known Twitter handle – Pierre Delicto?

How ironic that a guy who’s terrified to tweet under his own name gets an award for… courage.

The only surprise about the Biden junta’s latest trial balloon – gasoline taxes on mileage driven – is that took more than two months for the greed-crazed Democrats to float it.

This of course would be in addition to higher federal gasoline taxes, and Charlie Parker’s proposal to jack up state gasoline taxes per gallon from 24 cents to 62 cents.

Should do wonders for the economy – and inflation!

Senior Judge Laurence Silberman of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals recently talked about the need for the courts to revisit the landmark decision Times v. Sullivan, which basically enables the alt-left media to operate… the way they’ve been operating of late, able to make up total hoaxes to trash Republicans and never have to worry about any legal jeopardy.

Silberman, a Ronald Reagan appointee, accurately described the New York Times and the Washington Post as “virtually Democratic Party broadsheets,” and said the Wall Street Journal news section “leans in the same direction.”

He’s absolutely correct.

Cigna, the giant insurance company, has apparently been totally taken over by the Woke mob, according to a story in the Washington Examiner.

Here are some of the newly proscribed words and phrases in the corporate world of Cigna:

“Brown bag lunch.” “Hey guys!” “Wives/husbands/boyfriends/girlfriends” “Going into this blind” “Quiet in the peanut gallery” “Hip hip hooray” “No can do” “Long time no see” “I had a crazy day” “Off the reservation” “blacklist” “You’re too young to remember this but….”

Those are just the ones that amused me – Powerlineblog.com has the whole list.

I don’t think I’d get very far in corporate America if I were starting over again.

Come to think of it, I didn’t get that far in corporate America even before the rise of the fascist Deep State groupthink.

Quiz time: Here is a sentence, class, from the state’s Transition to Phase IV of Reopening Plan last week. Please read and analyze problem(s) with the following:

“The new travel advisory will urge all persons entering Massachusetts, including returning resident, are advised to quarantine for 10 days upon their arrival if they have been out of the state for 24 hours or more.”

Answer: The above is not a sentence. The hacks at the Department of Public Health couldn’t even be bothered to proofread their nonsensical orders.

What are “environmental justice communities?” I don’t know either, but Gov. Charlie Parker has signed “climate legislation” to, among other impossible goals, “Protect Environmental Justice Communities.”

Why do I have a feeling that neither you nor I live in an environmental justice community?”

Did you see the story in the Globe about the academic bloodbath going on at the University of Rhode Island?

It’s a battle of Woke vs. Woker – the Gender and Women’s Studies Program (woke) vs. the Gender and Sexuality Center (woker).

The apparently not-woke-enough professor who set off the struggle with the following statement, according to her own email to the Globe:

“I said that a person could not change their biological sex. I said that children are not ‘born in the wrong body’ and I saw that children cannot have the brain of one sex and the body of another. I called claims that these things are true ‘fantasies.’”

To which the head of the Gender and Sexuality Center replied:

“I don’t think our community will soon heal itself from the deep wounds that this has caused. I just heartbroken from the deep pain that I’m seeing our students are experiencing right now.”

You know the old saying from Prof. Wallace Sayre about faculty battles in higher education:

“Academic politics is the most vicious and bitter form of politics, because the stakes are so low.”

Finally, we close with a quote from Aeschylus:

“Wisdom comes through suffering.”

We’re all in for a lot more wisdom in the coming years.
