On May 5, known widely as Cinco de Mayo, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey made the following statement on Twitter:
“…Celebrating the Battle of Puebla, when an indigenous force of Mexicans defeated French colonizers.”
Indigenous Mexicans. Yes, they won a great victory. But it wasn’t a war of words. They had guns. A fact that Healey would probably just as soon forget. Why? Because she hates guns, in all forms, and especially the people who sell them.
This week marks one year since Healey’s office had a significant defeat handed to it by Judge Douglas Woodlock of the Federal District Court for Massachusetts. On April 1, 2020, Massachusetts removed gun stores from the list of essential businesses allowed to open during the Covid-19 emergency, forcing their closure. The gun stores sued in federal court. At the time, Healey sent a message on Twitter:
“Gun shops and sellers are NOT essential businesses during a public health emergency. We cannot undermine the safety of our police officers, first responders, and domestic violence victims” (Twitter, March 31, 2020).
Nice to know how you feel, Ms. Healey, but Judge Woodlock wasn’t impressed. In fact, when pressed for answers by the judge, Assistant AG Julia Kobick made the following assertions:
“Bold moves were needed to stop the virus in its tracks” and “Rights of plaintiffs (gun owners) are fully protected by the availability of ammunition in Walmart.”
These statements are laughable, but they serve a purpose…to fully illustrate the contempt which the Attorney General and her staff have for those who engage in lawful commerce in firearms, and for anyone who seeks to purchase firearms.
As if a virus can differentiate between a gun shop and a Walmart. The very assertion that the availability of ammunition in some Walmarts offsets the harm done by the closure of gun retailers is insulting to any person of intelligence.
Such is the arrogance of the Healey administration, and we should be grateful that it was soundly defeated in this case.
So while AG Healey dreams of her ascension to the governorship of the Commonwealth, while praising brave Mexican heroes, LGBT teenagers, illegal aliens, and victims everywhere, while at the same time demanding further restrictions on law enforcement…let’s all give silent thanks for Judge Woodlock and his defense of your rights in May of 2020.
The simple fact is that Maura Healey hates and despises firearms and the businesses that sell them. If she becomes Governor of Massachusetts, she will further unleash that hatred.
